A dog exploring Kamloops

The dog-friendly guide to

Kamloops

Excellent hosts surrounded by an unexpectedly hostile city for dogs.

Field notes August 2026

An honest account of the limited dog access we encountered in Kamloops during Canada Day 2024.

Kamloops was probably the most hostile city for dogs on our western Canada trip. During our visit, an extraordinary amount of grass carried no-dog signs.

Canada Day made the restrictions especially frustrating because we could not join the events with Tilly. The Grandview Motel and Noble Pig treated us well, but the wider city experience was needlessly difficult.

Restricted green spaceNo-dog signs appeared on almost every useful patch of grass we encountered.
Canada Day barriersWe could not find a celebration where Tilly was welcome.
Two good hostsThe Grandview Motel and Noble Pig were positive exceptions.
