A dog exploring Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

The dog-friendly guide to

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

A practical first overnight on our 2026 drive east, with a dog-friendly hotel and limited nearby green space.

Field notes September 2026

Our dog-friendly Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu notes from the 2026 Eastern Canada trip, including the Quality Inn stay and local walkability.

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu was the first overnight on our 2026 drive toward Halifax. The stop let Tilly and me break up the journey before continuing east to meet family arriving from Scotland.

We stayed in a commercial area on Rue Gadbois. It was practical rather than scenic: restaurants were nearby but unverified for dogs, green space was limited, and a strip behind the buildings gave us enough room for a basic walk.

Practical overnightThe Quality Inn gave us a straightforward first stop on the drive east.
$30 pet feeThe hotel charged $30 for Tilly for the night during our July 2026 stay.
Limited walkabilityA strip of greenery behind the commercial buildings worked for a basic dog walk.
Park across the streetI saw several people walking dogs in a park across the street, though we did not explore it ourselves.
