A dog exploring Winnipeg

The dog-friendly guide to

Winnipeg

Prairie skies, river walks and patios with room for Tilly.

Field notes August 2026

A practical dog-friendly guide to the Winnipeg places where we stayed, walked and ate.

Winnipeg was our first extended stop after crossing onto the prairies. We stayed for five nights in the Exchange District and used the slower pace to explore on foot with Tilly.

The Forks and the grounds around the Canadian Museum for Human Rights gave us excellent outdoor walks, while Nonsuch and Carnaval made it possible to eat well without leaving Tilly behind.

Five-night baseAn Exchange District apartment gave us room to settle in.
Central walksThe Forks and nearby museum grounds were easy to explore together.
Patio mealsNonsuch and Carnaval both made room for Tilly outdoors.
